Deryk Van Brunt, DrPH, Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Van Brunt is President and CEO of the Healthy Communities Institute. Dr. Van Brunt teaches Health Informatics at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health, and conducts research in the area of community health information systems. Dr. Van Brunt has overseen the creation, development and evaluation of clinical and patient-centered information systems implemented in over 500 hospitals and healthcare institutions. He has authored articles and commentaries on health information management and communication technology and serves on several healthcare committees and advisory boards. Dr. Van Brunt received his MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and his DrPH in Health Informatics from the University of California at Berkeley.
Marcos Athanasoulis, DrPH, Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Athanasoulis is the Chief Technology Officer for the Healthy Communities Institute. Dr. Athanasoulis, the chief architect of the Healthy Communities Network system, works on issues of interoperability of information systems with other information systems, scalability and oversees research. Also Director of Research Information Technology and Client Services for Harvard Medical School, Dr. Athanasoulis there leads the development of high performance computing infrastructure to support biomedical and healthcare research. Dr. Athanasoulis has worked in both the public and private sector to improve quality and efficiency of healthcare and the environment through information systems. Dr. Athanasoulis holds an MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and a DrPH in Health Informatics from the University of California at Berkeley.
Florence Reinisch, MPH, VP Client Services and Research
Florence Reinisch is Vice President of Research and Client Services for the Healthy Communities Institute. Ms. Reinisch is responsible for all phases of client services as well as research and site content. She managed the implementations of the original pilot Healthy Communities Network systems. Her work emphasizes strategic product development and relationships as the company has grown. Ms. Reinisch has over 15 years experience in public health research and policy development. Prior to joining HCI, she was Director of Research for the California Department of Health Services, Division of Environmental and Occupational Disease Control and conducted epidemiologic studies on a wide range of occupational and environmental health topics. She has a proven track record in project management, product strategy, research, and statistical analysis. Ms. Reinisch received her BA in Government from Cornell University and her MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of California at Berkeley.
Kathi deFremery, MBA, Finance Director
Kathi deFremery currently serves as the Finance Director for the Healthy Communities Institute. Ms. deFremery has 15 years of finance experience in both the for-profit and nonprofit world, working as a law firm controller, business and tax consultant and nonprofit finance director. Ms deFremery has developed and delivered workshop curriculum on nonprofit accounting topics and has provided financial assessment services to executive transition clients. Earning her undergraduate degree from the University of California Davis and an MBA in Strategic Leadership from Dominican University, she also served as Director of the Babcock Foundation and Director/Treasurer of the Marin Rowing Association.
