Board of Directors Deryk Van Brunt, DrPH Dr. Van Brunt is President and Chairman of the Healthy Communities Institute. Dr. Van Brunt teaches Health Informatics at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health, and conducts research in the area of community health information systems. Dr. Van Brunt has overseen the creation, development and evaluation of clinical and patient-centered information systems implemented in over 500 hospitals and healthcare institutions. He has authored articles and commentaries on health information management and communication technology and serves on several healthcare committees and advisory boards. Dr. Van Brunt received his MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and his DrPH in Health Informatics from the University of California at Berkeley. Marcos Athanasoulis, DrPH Dr. Athanasoulis is the Chief Technology Officer for the Healthy Communities Institute. Dr. Athanasoulis, the chief architect of the Healthy Communities Network system, works on issues of interoperability of information systems with other information systems, scalability and oversees research. Also Director of Research Information Technology and Client Services for Harvard Medical School, Dr. Athanasoulis there leads the development of high performance computing infrastructure to support biomedical and healthcare research. Dr. Athanasoulis has worked in both the public and private sector to improve quality and efficiency of healthcare and the environment through information systems. Dr. Athanasoulis holds an MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and a DrPH in Health Informatics from the University of California at Berkeley. Jeff Goshay Jeff Goshay is founder and a head trader for Headwaters Holdings, LLC, with the responsibility for making investment decisions in the firms proprietary accounts. Mr. Goshay’s focus for 15 years has been in developing trading organizations, including broker dealer specialist operations on the PSE, market-making operations on PHLX, AMEX and PSE, and overseas arbitrage activities. He has also managed partner investment activity in multiple start-ups and previously worked as a market maker, pricing publicly listed equity options on the Pacific Options Exchange. Mr. Goshay received his degree in Business Administration, Finance, from the University of California at Berkeley. Jan Barker, MA Jan P. Barker brings experience in venture capital investing and fundraising, board of director participation, company growth and exits, leadership, management and a broad coalition of business skills from her 25-year career in healthcare. Ms. Barker was a partner with MedVenture Associates, a venture fund investing in healthcare for six years. Prior to that she was a founder and managing member of The Crucible Group, LLC, a venture development organization. In both partnerships she participated in private equity-related investments in the device, systems and information technology segments of healthcare. Her capabilities include sourcing deals, analyzing potential, and assisting entrepreneurial ventures in obtaining seed and additional capital rounds, business plan development, strategic planning insight, operations assistance, recruitment of key personnel and Board of Director participation. She has a broad combination of complementary skills in the healthcare entrepreneurial environment. Ellen Fair, MA Ms. Fair is a long time investor in technology companies. She has worked in Finance at Pacific Bell Directory and Pixar Animation Studios, and in Educational Sales at Macromedia. Ms. Fair studied English at the University of California at Berkeley, and her fundraising and outreach experience include the Branson School, Marin Agricultural Land Trust and the Marin Valentines Ball. Ms. Fair is on the Board of Trustees of the Branson School.
